Transitions making our play FLOW

Discussion of FLOW - how to build coherence
7/9/16 ABSENT- Brooke/Amber/Maddi
Transitions - the in between bit: eg" can use spoken thoughts [Sabrina]
Brainstorming other ways to transition [picture] and link, Miss Clay used the analogy of sewing with a needle and thread.
Really good work polishing transitions by Shawnee/Sabrina/Lauren

Shawnee/Sabrina/Lauren/Amber  - constructed a flashback - good use of dialogue and the twirling back into past. Good plan even though Sabrina had to go to sickbay; Teacher - licked layering of telephone/narration/flashback and next you go into split screen. Next steps- develop length, make it bigger; repeat until it flows.

Brooke/ Maddi/Kylie -transition to bring chair in' adapted ending of chorus so they could do chair transition- the group liked their chorus of movement and Brookes' character changing mood with evil laughter. Teacher liked the effective use; next time group woants to be sharper; teacher suggests Brng in character more - eg: louder, more evil

Ideas for Transitions - What works? Why? Can you find a scene and share it?

Greta work with the gossip chorus and getting more mean and bitchy.

News reports and planning

Great characters- the crying step-mother, the bemused detective and a colloquial news reporter [Maddi, Brooke, Kylie}
Miss Clay got the groups to organise their idas by cutting up the groups written reflection and getting them to arrange their ideas on the mirrors. There was a lot of thoughtful discussion about what the groups would do.
 Lauren, Shawnee. Amber and Sabrina did a news report where Amber interviewed 2 quests from the ball [ugly sisters] about the mystery woman [Sabrina- who just ran off]. The giggly stepsisters overwhelmed by being on TV were funny but also showed their self-centeredness. They also used a split focus when Cinderella lurked on one side of the stage.

11 NCEA Devising process

16/8/16
Devise - How can we use these conventions
1. First - we did freezeframes with voices in the head- around a party;
2  with Miss Clay - emotion + movement

Maddi/Kylie/ - effective building of tension and see different side to character of evil queen
Amber worked on ideas yesterday on google doc but today is finishing something else.
Lauren / Sabrina and Shawnee

3/8 16

  • working on gathering ideas around story
  • Lauren & co selected Cinderella
  • Kylie & Co- selected Snow White
2/8/16
we have watched Into the Woods and discussed wide themes such as family relationships, romantic love, mother daughte relationships [present Amber; Lauren, Shawnee, Sabrina and Kylie, Brooke, Maddit

27/07 Devising- Task is around a story so groups are starting collecting some ideas around traditional stories. We looked at the exemplars yesterday and discussed compilation play making. Some students are doing melodrama reassessment.

Group 1: Sabrina, Shawnee, Lauren
Sabrina is interested in "The Ugly Duckling" - there is one odd one out which is sad, it is something that happens to people, particularly teenagers. She is looking at lists of traditional stories too.
Shawnee is looking at same story but I don't know, it needs a lot of characters and it doesn't interest me.
Lauren thinks the story has a good message. Good take the concept into human world, teenagers.
